How to use Clean Space to solve problems, generate ideas and spark creativity

Times: 18h15 Registration and Networking

18h45 Session begins and finishes at 20h15

Environments can affect our thinking and emotional states. Dark rooms can make us feel gloomy; mountainsides inspire us to think big; we go for walks to clear our heads. But did you know that you could gain new perspectives on a topic just by standing in different places in a room? We talk about looking at problems from different angles - but have you ever considered moving to different spaces and viewing your problem from there?

The new sciences of self-organisation, networks and emergence have revealed hidden patterns to the process of creativity and problem solving. By using “Clean Space” – itself an innovative form of facilitation - you can encourage the conditions for creative emergence without getting in the way.

One-to-one and group Clean Space processes can also be used at the start of a project to develop robust outcomes and alliances between internal and/or external stakeholders.

During this workshop you will have an opportunity to watch a demonstration of a Clean Space session, and see how seemingly intractable problems can be addressed by using space as a partner in creativity.  There will be opportunities during and after the demo for people to ask questions.  You will also take part in a guided Inner Clean Space session (as a client), created especially for when the space available is limited.

Participants will:

  • Understand more about the role ‘space’ has in our perceptions and how to utilise space and spatial metaphors within coaching
  • Learn a stand-alone coaching methodology called ‘Clean Space’
  • Discover some ‘tips’ for facilitating this process
  • Learn how Clean Space can be adapted to take into account different factors, such a limited space, need to blend with another model or use with objects of photographs
