Emerging Trends in Coaching
Joy Harcup: President UK International Coach Federation (ICF) Charter Chapter
Gill Smith: Association for Coaching (AC), UK Chair
Terezia Koczka, EMCC UK Professional Standards and Development Director and former Founding President of EMCC in Hungary
As coaching becomes more widespread – in different sectors, through different delivery channels and from different types of practitioners, what does that mean for the buyers, recipients and providers of coaching? Do we need to encourage openness and innovation, or should we be narrowing the focus, increasing control and enforcing standards? Is it possible to maintain coaching’s reputation for effectiveness and professional practice as it develops more widely?
The 3 main professional bodies for coaching in the UK are presenting this joint session. We will outline some of the main trends that we see in coaching today and discuss the issues that these raise for coaches, coaching and professional bodies.
We want to hear from participants what their views and questions are, and what they would like from us as professional bodies.
After initial input from the 3 speakers the audience will be invited to break into small discussion groups. These will report back to the full group for an interactive final session.
The learning objectives for the session will be as follows:
1. Better understanding of current and future trends in coaching
2. Reflection and discussion about coaching now and its development, and what issues will need to be faced in future
3. Learning from the professional bodies and each other about perceived trends in coaching and the dilemmas and opportunities that are emerging.
